Friends

Friends is an Emmy Award-winning American situation comedy about a group of six friends living in the New York City borough of Manhattan that was originally broadcast from 1994 to 2004. It was created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, and produced by Kevin S. Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane. One of the most popular television series of all time, the show has been broadcast in over one hundred countries and still continues to attract good ratings for its episodes in syndication. The final episode of the show remains one of the largest in terms of television audience numbers in the U.S.

الأصدقاء (بالإنجليزية: Friends) سلسلة كوميديا طويلة ورائجة جدا تتحدث عن مجموعة من الشباب يعيشون في مدينة نيويورك دام عرضه من 1994 إلى 2004 م على شبكة NBC. يعتبر هذا المسلسل من أطول المسلسلات من نوعها تاريخ التلفزيون الأمريكي، مكتسبا ملايين المتابعين في جميع أنحاء العالم. كانت بداية المسلسل تحت عنوان «أصدقاء مثلنا» (Friends Like Us) وسرعان ماتحول إلى أصدقاء (Friends).

أنتج المسلسل شركة برايت/كوفمان/كران بالإشتراك مع وارنر بروس، وعرض أول مرة على قناة NBC في الولايات المتحدة. تلا ذلك عروض على مجموعة كبيرة من الشبكات الأخرى في عدة بلدان في كافة أنحاء العالم منها MBC 4 وONE TV في الشرق الأوسط. استمر بثه من 22 سبتمر 1994 إلى 6 مايو 2004 م. فازت السلسلة بالعديد من الجوائز أثناء عرضها بما فيها جائزة إيمي واحدة (لأفضل سلسلة هزلية) وستة جوائز من جائزة اختيار الناس.

Origins

Friends was created in 1994 by David Crane, who wrote Friends in Burbank, California, and who got his start working with the legendary Norman Lear and Marta Kauffman, who served as writer and producer of Dream On. Friends was aimed at young adults who, during the early 1990s, were identified by their café culture, dating scene and modern independence.

Two of the series' stars, Matthew Perry and Jennifer Aniston, had already appeared in several unsuccessful sitcom pilots.

Another, Lisa Kudrow, was also familiar with working on sitcoms having played Ursula Buffay on Mad About You. In the series, it was revealed that Ursula was the twin sister of Kudrow's Friends character, Phoebe. Kudrow was fired during filming of the pilot of Frasier after being cast as Roz.

Courteney Cox was already an accomplished TV and film actress when she was cast, having appeared in the likes of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and had had several minor roles on sitcoms such as Seinfeld and Family Ties.

David Schwimmer was wanted by the writers of Friends for the part of Ross Geller from the beginning; having auditioned for Crane and Kauffman in the past, Schwimmer was said to have a memorable voice and was most known for his Broadway work, but he also directed some Friends episodes.

Matt LeBlanc appeared as Vinnie Verducci, the boyfriend of Kelly Bundy in Married... with Children in the early 1990s and starred in that sitcom's short-lived spin-off, Top of the Heap as well as Vinnie & Bobby, but before that had mainly been focusing on advertising and modeling work when he was cast as Joey Tribbiani.

جوي وتشاندلر

مع بدء الحلقات,تترك رايتل خطيبها على المذبح وتنتقل للعيش مع صديقتها الحميمة أثناء طفولتها، مونيكا . تعيش الإثنتان في منزل مقابل لمنزل تشاندلر وجوي الذان يتسكعان من حين لآخر مع روس شقسق مونيكا والذي كان قد طلق زوجته السحاقية . ثمّ هناك فيبي "بنص عقل شريكة غرفة مونيكا السابقة. تتضمّن أماكن التصوير شقّة مونيكا،شقّة جوي وتشاندلر، شقّة روس، شقّة فيبي والمقهى المحليّة، فائدة مركزية (تكشف حلقة ارتجاعية flashback لاحقا بأنّ المقهى كانت أصلا حانة تردّد عليها أيضا تشاندلر، مونيكا، فيبي وروس قبل أن ينضم جوي ورايتشل إلى المجموعة)

روس غيلر مع رايتشل

بعد الانتقال إلى المدينة، حصلت رايتشل على عملها الأول كنادلة في المقهى. أصبحت لاحقا مساعدة مشتري ووكيلة في بلومنجدال، ولاحقا وكيلة لرالف لورين. كافحت مونيكا من أجل النجاح أولا عدّة مواسم، لكنها أصبحت كبيرة الطباخين في النهاية و في مطعم محترم.

بدأ تشاندلر طريقه صعودا في معالجة البيانات وانتقل في النهاية إلى مهنة في الإعلانات (في المواسم الأخيرة) بعد أزمة منتصف عمر. أما جوي فاستقرت مهنته أخيرا على العمل في سلسلة تلفزيونية كان قد رفض فيها سابقا. أصبح عالم الأثريات روس في النهاية أستاذ كليّة. فيبي كسبت عيشها من عملها كشاعرة ومدلكة.

تطورت العلاقة العاطفية بين روس ورايتشل صعودا و هبوطا على مدار المواسم.فيما شهدت علاقة مونيكا وتشاندلر نموا كبيرا.

استعمال النكات والطرائف كان مفرطا بحيث أنك لا تتوقف عن الضحك طوال الحلقة. بعض النكات تتعلّق بالنشاط الجنسي أو السياسة والإساءة المبطّنة. كما ركز العرض على أمور جدية أيضا مثل الانهيارات العاطفية,كوميديا الموقف والكتير من السخرية.

Behind the scenes, the show was known for its unusually cohesive and unified cast. The six main actors made deliberate efforts, from early on, to keep the show's ensemble format and to not allow any one of them to dominate. This included requesting that all actors on the show be nominated either for the same category of award ("Supporting Actor" until 2001, then "Lead Actor" from 2002 onwards) or not at all, and entering collective instead of individual salary negotiations. The actors became such close friends that one guest star, Tom Selleck, reported sometimes feeling left out. This was a criticism later echoed by British actress Helen Baxendale, who guest starred as Ross's second wife, Emily.

The character of Ursula (Phoebe's twin sister) first appeared in the sitcom Mad About You as a waitress. Kudrow played Ursula on both Mad About You and Friends. The show's creators did not originally intend for Phoebe to have a twin, but they added the character to explain why Kudrow was appearing on two different shows on the same network, at one time as a part of the same Thursday night line-up.

Friends featured many of its celebrity guest stars as secondary characters in the show. Most U.S. sitcoms use celebrities in cameo appearances to raise ratings during important sweeps weeks, but some celebrities appeared on Friends throughout each TV season. These stars included Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, George Clooney, Sean Penn, Danny DeVito, Robin Williams, Helen Hunt, Brooke Shields, Julia Roberts, Sarah Ferguson, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Ben Stiller, Alec Baldwin, Ralph Lauren, Hank Azaria, Anna Faris, Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder, and Isabella Rossellini. British business mogul Richard Branson made a guest appearance in a Season Four episode. Creator Of R'n'B Girl Group "Pussycat Dolls", Robin Antin made an appearance. One guest star who gained a recurring role was Tom Selleck as Monica’s older long-term boyfriend. The parents of the six were cast using celebrities: for example, Kathleen Turner played Chandler's drag-queen father, Elliott Gould played Ross and Monica's father, and Teri Garr played Phoebe's flaky birth mother.

Four CSI stars also played in Friends: Aisha Tyler from CSI: Las Vegas, Eddie Cahill from CSI: NY and Emily Procter & Sofia Milos from CSI: Miami. Child star Dakota Fanning played the role of Mackenzie in Season 10 of the series in the episode 'The One With Princess Consuela'.

Season synopses

Season One (1994-1995)

Phoebe, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Ross meet up in Central Perk shortly after Ross's wife Carol realizes she is a lesbian and divorces him. Monica and Ross are both living alone, Chandler and Joey live together and Phoebe lives with her grandmother. Monica's old high school friend, Rachel, enters Central Perk wearing a wedding dress, having just run away from her wedding to Barry Farber. She moves in with Monica, gets a job as a waitress at Central Perk but struggles to work for a living, having previously lived a rich life. Ross discovers his ex-wife is pregnant and she gives birth to a boy, named Ben, who is subsequently raised by Carol and her lesbian partner, Susan.

Joey and Chandler have many flings with different women. Chandler gets involved with a woman named Janice who repeatedly shows up in every season through the series. She is most known for her catchphrase "oh...my...God!".

Ross reveals he had a crush on Rachel in high school and he still has feelings for her. Throughout the season, he fails to make his feelings known to her and Chandler and Joey eventually persuade him to move on. On Rachel's birthday, Ross leaves for a paleontological trip to China. While he is gone, Chandler accidentally reveals to Rachel that Ross is in love with her. Rachel decides she would like to start a romantic relationship with Ross and goes to meet him at the airport when he returns from China, unaware that he is getting off the plane with another woman named Julie.

Phoebe meets a scientist named David whom she falls in love with, but in the end he has to move to Minsk, to continue with his scientific research. They are left heart-broken by this move.

In this episode, Ross finds out that his ex-wife Carol is pregnant with his child. He's stunned to learn she wants to give the baby her and her lesbian lovers last name. Rachel decides to return her engagement ring to Barry, the man she left at the alter and learns that he didn't let their honeymoon go to waste. He spent it with her maid of honor Mindy.

So out of jealousy, she breaks up with him, and this makes everyone else feel very down. Chandler resumes his smoking habit. Phoebe encounters a problem with her bank account, they give her $1,000. She complains and gives it away, but then she opens a can of soda and sees a thumb. So the soda company gives her $7,000.

Season 1, Episode 5:
The One with the East German Laundry Detergent
Original Air Date: 20 October 1994

Chandler and Pheobe decide to end their current relationships at the same time. Phoebe handles it well, but Chandler has more difficult time. Ross agrees to go to the laundromat with Monica and Rachel, even though he has a laundry machine, so that he can see more of Rachel. Then Monica backs out last minute. Rachel admits that she has never done laundry before. Joey wants his ex-girlfriend Angela to break up with her boyfriend Bob, so he arranges for Monica and him to go on a double date with Angela and Bob by telling her that Bob and Angela are brother and sister.
