Assereto was born in Genoa.
In 1639 he went to Rome for a
brief period and his subsequent works
show that he was much impressed by
the painting of Caravaggio and his
followers. His pictures are
characterised by vibrant light
effects and dramatic compositions.
He died in Genoa

يعود موضوع اللوحة إلى العهد القديم إلى سفر التكوين 21
يأمر الملاك هاجر خليلة ابراهيم " عشيقته "
بعد انجاب الابن اسماعيل بالحفاظ على ابنها والاحتفاظ به.
يتم تصوير اللحة في بيئة مماثلة لجنوى Genoa تم استخدام الالوان القاتمة العنيفة في الرسم .

The subject is from the
Old Testament (Genesis 21).
The angel instructs Hagar,
mistress of Abraham and
mother of their son Ishmael,
who had been sent to the wilderness to die, to lift up the
boy for he was to be made the progenitor of a great nation.
Assereto’s earlier painting
of the same subject is in
Genoa, Palazzo Rosso.
The composition and the
forceful gestures of the figures
make this a striking and highly dramatic image.
