اسمه الأصلي هو Giovanni Battista Gaulli دعيBACICCIO
ايطالي الجنسية عاش 70 عام من تاريخ 1639 حتى وفاته عام 1709
من مواليد مدينة جنوى Genoa انتقل بمرحلة مراهقته إلى روما حيث بقي بروما حتى وفاته .
كان له علاقة جيدة مع المصمم والنحات الذي كان يعمل لحساب البابا والذي يدعى Gian Lorenzo Bernini ( منحكي عليه بعدين )
وقد ساهم هذا الأخير في دعمه للتقدم بمهنته ومساعدته لنيل شرف تزيين سقف كنيسة Gesú
كنيسة ام الرجاء اليسوعية .

Baciccio (a nickname for Giovanni
Battista) was born in Genoa but moved
to Rome in his late teens and stayed
there until his death.
He established good relations
with the papal sculptor-architect
> Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680)
who helped him advance his career
and supported him in obtaining his
most important commission, the
decoration of the ceiling in the church
of the Gesú, the mother church of the
Jesuit Order (1676-9). This fresco
shows the glorification of the
name of Jesus and is one of the
grandest Baroque ceilings in Rome.
Baciccio also executed many portraits
of popes and cardinals, but few of
these are known today.

استخدم في رسمها الألوان الزيتية للرسم على الجنفاص بلوح ابعاده ( 36.5 × 72.6 ) سنتمتر
كتب على خلفية اللوحة اسم الكاردينال مما يجعل الأمر لا مجال للشك فيه حول هويتة الشخص المرسموم
Marco Gallo كان احد مواليد مدينة Como تم تعيينه بشكل مختلف بعدة مناطق مخ اخلاف الباباوات وتعاقبهم
عام 1659 عين اسقف في ارمينيا حيث ترفع إلى مرتبة الكاردينال وتوفي عام 1681
اللوحة رسمت عندما تعيين كاردينال والدليل على ذلك وضع القلنسوة الحمراء على راسه والتي تخصص فقط للشخص الذي من مرتبة الكاردينال

The existence of an 18th-century print
after this painting, inscribed with the sitter’s
name, confirms the cardinal’s identity.
Marco Gallo was born in Como.
After several postings in the papal
civil service he was appointed, in 1659,
Bishop of Rimini. He was made a cardinal
by Innocent XI in 1681 and died in 1683.
Baciccio’s portrait, which shows him
with the cardinal’s biretta (red hat)
and mozzetta (short cape) must date
from between 1681 and 1683.
