السريان الأرثوذكس في سورية يطالبون البطريرك بالاستقالة


الخميس 27 كانون الأول 2007 طالبت "حركة المسيحيين الأحرار في سورية" بطريرك إنطاكية وسائر المشرق للكنيسة السريانية الأرثوذكسية البطريرك عيواص الأول بالاستقالة من موقعه على خلفية الكلمة التي ألقاها لدى استقباله الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد في دير مار أفرام السرياني بمناسبة عيد الميلاد أول من أمس.
وأفاد بيان أصدره المكتب الإعلامي للحركة تسلمت "السياسة" نسخة منه أمس "أن كلام البطريرك عن كون بشار الأسد يمثل صمود الوطن كلام زائف ومزور ويجب ألا يصدر عن شخص يحمل شرف أن يكون بطريركاً, وأن جزمه بأن المسيحيين جميعاً مع بشار الأسد هو "الأخطر", مضيفاً "إن زيارة الرئيس السوري إلى الدير ليس لها أي دلالة إلا توظيفها توظيفاً سياسياً".
وأنهى المكتب الإعلامي بيانه بالقول: "نحن في سورية كمسيحيين نقف صفاً واحداً مع إخوتنا المسلمين وغيرهم من طوائف هذا الوطن الحبيب ضد الاستبداد المتمثل في النظام القائم.
نرفض أي تدخل عسكري خارجي, لكن من المفيد التوضيح بأن هذا النظام يعمل على دعم الحركات الأصولية العنفية لإظهار أن البديل عنه هو التطرف والإرهاب ما سيؤدي إلى خراب البلاد ودفعها نحو الهاوية".
وأضاف: إننا في حركة المسيحيين الأحرار في سورية إذ نوضح للرأي العام السوري والعالمي أن الكلام الصادر عن البطريرك عيواص يمثله وحده فقط, نطالبه بالاستقالة حالاً من موقعه كبطريرك لأنطاكية وسائر المشرق للسريان الأرثوذكس وذلك لسقوط أهم صفة عنه وهي الصدق, كوننا لا نقبل أن يتكلم منافق باسمنا".

Free Syrian Christians Blast Their Patriarch
Washington -- In a press release, the Free Christian Movement located in Damascus, opposed to Bashar al-Assad, blasts the Syrian Patriarch Ewas I of Antioch after he praised Assad during his visit on the traditional Christmas holiday to the Mar Efram Monastery.
According to the press release received by RPS, Patriarch Ewas I praised Assad by playing the same music the resistant minded regime plays during its propaganda war against the west. Specifically the Patriarch said: "Your visit [Assad's] is an indicator of where our noble people stand behind a wise and a courageous leadership rising as a high mountain indifferent against its enemies far and near, beyond oceans and in front of them".
In response to the Assad visit and the Patriarch's words of praise, the Free Christian Movement wanted to make the following issues clear:

1. The visit of Bashar al-Assad to the Mar Efram Monastery is but a political statement by Assad.
2. Talk of Assad's resistance is nothing but fictitious and a forgery. The Patriarch should not be the messenger of such talk.
3. For the Patriarch to say that he carries the message of all Christians in Syria is a lie and is very dangerous for the Christian community.
4. We, Christians, stand with our brothers the Muslims and all other denominations as Syrians and against tyranny represented by the Assad regime.
5. We Christians refuse any foreign military intervention but it is also fair to say that the Assad regime supports all violent movements to show the world that the alternative to its rule are the extremist terrorists groups.

The press release demanded the immediate resignation of the Patriarch from his position held since 1998
